Tequila Day Reflections

It’s been a really hot summer. Like, the kind of summer where I schvitz all over the subway seat and then I get up for some elderly lady and she looks at the seat and she’s like, “Ew, no thanks!” It’s a constant battle to leave my iglooesque (not a word) apartment and greet the summer sweat-fest. But alas, we all have jobs, friends, and things to do out in the real world even when the sun is beating on you like Chris Brown on Rihanna in 2008 and then again in 2010. To sum up, it’s hot outside. I’m not a “naked” person. There are few things in the world that make me want to shed my clothing. One is my boyfriend (he’s really cute), two is 95-degree weather, and three is (cliché drum roll for predictable answer) --- tequila. Tequila is the alcohol equivalent of a girlfriend you meet sophomore year of college who tells you that being a hoe is cool and you should always say yes to boys who wear button down shirts ‘cause they’re classy. (Ladies, don’t fall for this – they ALL wear collared shirts at times!) Needless to say, back in my tequila drinking days, I was known for falling while walking on flat surfaces and pursing my lips into the air, waiting for someone to make out with them, all the while squinting like a cat and shoving chicken fingers into my mouth. Other than enhancing my great multi-tasking skills, tequila was my mortal enemy. Now that I’m a grown-up, I can’t say that I’ve been in touch with my ex-gal pal, Tequila. (Yes, she deserves a capital T.) However, when my friend, Melissa, founder of Tipsy Scoop, told me about her tequila-based treats, I decided I needed to re-evaluate my long lost interest in the honey-colored nectar of the devils. After all, there was ICE CREAM in this tequila – how loopy could I possibly get? Also, if there’s a fourth thing in this world that makes me feel hot and bothered inside, it’s frozen desserts. After experiencing the delightful buzz of Grapefruit Paloma Sorbet, I felt I was a tangy grapefruit falling off a tree into a soft patch of grass. When engaging with the tart Raspberry Margarita Sorbet, I was in the Bahamas, lounging by the waves. And, oh dear LORD, when I tasted the Mexican “Hot” Chocolate with Tequila and it’s ever so subtle friend, Saint Germain, I was transported onto the top of a burro, trotting through Tijuana. Yes, I felt the tingles of tipsiness, but my out-of-body experiences had nothing to do with the alcohol I was consuming – the ice cream was just so damn good. I’m too old (and lame) to knock back shots of tequila these days but I’m not too old to enjoy my ice cream with a hint of it. Tipsy Scoop’s tequila treats have helped me to enjoy the strong liquor, and even more importantly, I can enjoy it without doing something embarrassing in front of complete stranger. I mean, unless I decide to willingly, which is totally possible.

Red Carpet Flavors: Make Your Oscars Party a Little Tipsier

What could be more lovely than a bowl of Tipsy Scoop? Not many things, but these Red Carpet beauties do give the delicious treat a run for its money. We compared our favorite leading ladies with our favorite Tipsy flavors to prepare for the Red Carpet this Sunday. This year we're hoping to add Amy Adams in Frangelico Affogato to the list!

Our Grasshopper Creme de Menthe flavor reminds us of the Edith Head designed gown that Grace Kelly wore in 1955 when she won Best Actress for her role in The Country Girl.

Our "Hot" Cinnamon Ginger Buttered Rum flavor reminds us of Susan Sarandon's Dolce & Gabbana dress from 1996, winning Best Actress for her role in Dead Man Walking.

The classic frock Julie Andrews wore in 1965, winning Best Actress for her role in Sound of Music, reminds us of our classic flavor, Cake Batter Vodka Martini.

Our Strawberry Rhubarb Bourbon flavor resembles Gwyneth Paltrow's Ralph Lauren dress from 1999, winning Best Actress for her role in Shakespeare in Love.

Our St. Germain & Tequila "Hot" Chocolate flavor reminds us of the elaborate gown Bette Davis wore in 1939 when she won Best Actress for her role in Jezebel.

Our Blood Orange & Campari flavor resembles Halle Berry's Elie Saab dress from 2002, winning Best Actress for her role in Monster's Ball.

Our Mango Margarita flavor reminds us of the Halston number Liza Minnelli wore in 1973 when she won Best Actress for her role in Cabaret.

The glamorous Randolph Duke gown Hilary Swank wore in 2000, winning Best Actress for her role in Boy's Don't Cry, reminds us of our Maple Bourbon Eggnog flavor.

The Rodarte dress Natalie Portman wore in 2011, winning Best Actress for her role in Black Swan reminds us of our Kir Royale flavor.

Our Irish Car Bomb flavor reminds us of the Lanvin gown Meryl Streep wore in 2012 when she won Best Actress for her role in The Iron Lady.

Making St. Patty's Day A Little BOOZIER

St. Patty's day is a notoriously BOOZY holiday that just got BOOZIER! In addition to all your crazy green cocktails and bagels, we have created booze-infused ice cream flavors specifically for your St. Patty's Day celebration! Here are our three flavors to celebrate the Irish:

Irish Coffee- Cinnamon Whisky, Coffee, Coffee Liqueur and Cream Liqueur

We decided to change the traditional recipe up and use Fireball Cinnamon Whisky instead of an Irish Whisky- we think this added just the spice and kick that the ice cream needed!

Shamrock Shooter- Kahlua, Amaretto, and Green Sprinkles

Here we added green sprinkles, just because- St. Patty's day = green stuff.

Irish Car Bomb- Jameson Irish Whiskey, Bailey's, and Guinness

This ice cream was inspired by one of our favorite shots- the Irish Car Bomb. We kept the ingredients exactly the same as the shot. One scoop tastes like throwing a shot back.

Order your St. Patty's Day party pack for Hoboken St. Patty's day this weekend or later in the month for St. Patty's Day in NYC:) Order here - delivery in dry ice included in Hoboken and Manhattan

Behind the Scenes: A Night at our Commercial Kitchen!

Take an inside peak into the Tipsy Scoop Kitchen! Tonight we're making Deep Dark Chocolate Depression & Salted Caramel Whiskey Tears. First we make our delicious ice cream base, a combination of eggs, milk, cream, and sugar. Then we let the base set in the fridge while we prep our cocktail additions. Once the base has set, we add in whiskey, dark chocolate liqueur and luxurious swirls of sea salt caramel and churn to perfection in our ice cream maker.
